2. Mow at the correct height. Scalping your Lawn not only slows the growth of your lawn. It damages your lawn and requires your lawn to take longer to recover and susceptible to diseases.
3.Never Mow your lawn when it is wet. Allow lawn to dry before mowing. Cutting Wet grass pulls and tear the blades.
4. Avoid mowing during the peak heat of the day.
April to Mid June ( When Heat Increases) Minimum Cutting Height 3 inches
Mid June until Early September 3.5 to 4+ inches.
If the grass turns yellow or brown. Stop mowing and increase watering.
September to November minimum 2 to 2.5 inches.
Most Lawns require 1 - 1 1/2 inches of rain per week. Or 15 -20 minutes of water per zone, 2 to 3 times a week.
Sandy or Loose Compacted Soils , require more water. Due to lack of water retention. Generally watering 20- 30 minutes per zone, 2 to 3 times a week
Best practices is to use a rain gauge and soil moisture tester. Also installing a rain sensor, if you own an irrigation system.
Increase watering during extreme heat and dry conditions.
If you pay for water or sewer. Installing a second water meter can save you money. Contact your local water or sewer provider for more information.
Water your lawn early in the morning before sunrise. Avoid watering doing the heat of the day. Due to water evaporation.
During extreme heat and dry conditions. Water early in the morning and early evening is acceptable. When the grass is yellowing or browning.
Thatching in early spring or fall. Removes the dead and heavy thatch. Excess thatch blocks fertilizer, water and other nutrients from reaching the roots of your lawn.
Core Aerating removes plug of soil. In Compacted soils conditions. Aerating loosen the soil compaction. Which Allows water, fertilizer and other nutrients to reach the roots of your grass. Which strengthens the roots and cause them to establish deep root growth
